40G QSFP+ Transceivers
40G QSFP+ transceivers connect the 40 Gigabit Ethernet QSFP+ ports on switches and network adapters to fiber. Most modules here are 40GBASE-SR4 for multimode fiber, coded for Dell, HPE, Juniper and Sun Oracle equipment, alongside a Juniper 40GBASE-LR4 for single-mode links and a Cisco QSFP-40G-SR-BD BiDi module. Every optic is tested before it ships.

SR4, LR4 or BiDi: reach and cabling
The module type sets the fiber and the distance. Cisco's 40GBASE QSFP data sheet gives these figures for the three types on this page:

BiDi runs over a duplex LC multimode pair, while SR4 needs a 12-fiber MPO trunk. For 10G breakout, Cisco states that the QSFP-40G-SR4 can run in 4x10G mode to reach 10GBASE-SR ports, and Juniper's QFX5100 switches can split each 40GbE port into four 10GbE ports with QSFP+-to-SFP+ cables or optics.
