Intel Xeon Gold Processors

Refurbished Intel Xeon Gold processors: the Gold 5000 and Gold 6000 series of Intel Xeon Scalable, across all five generations, from the 1st Gen Gold 5100 and 6100 to the 5th Gen Gold 5500 and 6500. They run on the FCLGA3647, FCLGA4189 and FCLGA4677 sockets, with single-socket (U), networking (N) and Speed Select (Y) variants alongside the standard parts. We put every Gold CPU through a lab test when it arrives and repeat it before shipping.

Gold 5000 vs Gold 6000

Intel gives Gold both 5 and 6 as first digits. In the 1st and 2nd Gen, a Gold 6000 part adds a third UPI link and faster memory over a Gold 5000 part while both scale to four sockets (Intel ARK); from the 3rd Gen on, both series have three UPI links and two-socket scaling, and memory speed or core count separates them.

Gold seriesGenerationsUPI links, standard partsMax sockets, standard partsCPU socket

Gold 5400 and 64004th Gen32FCLGA4677
Gold 5500 and 65005th Gen32FCLGA4677

Suffixes change what a Gold part can do. Intel defines U models as single-socket only, Y models as supporting Speed Select Technology (SST-PP), and N models as tuned for networking and NFV workloads.

Memory speed and vector units separate the two series as well. Intel ARK lists these figures for representative standard Gold parts of each generation:

GenerationGold 5000 seriesGold 6000 series
1st Gen (5100, 6100)DDR4-2400, 1 AVX-512 FMA unitDDR4-2666, 2 FMA units
2nd Gen (5200, 6200)DDR4-2667, 1 FMA unitDDR4-2933, 2 FMA units
3rd Gen (5300, 6300)DDR4-2933, 2 FMA unitsDDR4-3200, 2 FMA units
4th Gen (5400, 6400)DDR5-4400, 2 FMA unitsDDR5-4400, 2 FMA units

Individual models can differ within a series, so check the model on each listing against Intel ARK; in the 5th Gen, ARK gives DDR5-5200 to the 24- and 32-core Gold 6500 Y models.

Servers for Gold CPUs

Gold parts of the 1st and 2nd Gen fit Dell's PowerEdge R640 and R740; 3rd Gen Gold belongs in the R750, and 4th and 5th Gen Gold in the R760. On the HPE side, a DL380 Gen10 takes 1st or 2nd Gen Gold, a DL380 Gen10 Plus takes 3rd Gen and a DL380 Gen11 takes 4th Gen, per HPE's QuickSpecs. The servers are under Dell PowerEdge and HPE ProLiant.

Gold and Platinum 32-core models are grouped on 32-core Xeon processors, and 24-core ones on 24-core Xeon processors. Neighbouring tiers: Intel Xeon Platinum and Intel Xeon Silver, all under Xeon Scalable processors. Every Gold part is backed by an Enterasource warranty, its length on the listing.

Every Xeon family is on Intel Xeon processors, and older two-socket servers use the Xeon E5-2600 family.

Xeon Gold questions

What is the difference between Xeon Gold 5000 and 6000 series?
In the 1st and 2nd Gen, a Gold 6000 part has three UPI links, two AVX-512 FMA units per core and faster memory, against two links, one unit and slower memory on a Gold 5000 part; both scale to four sockets. From the 3rd Gen, both series have three links and two FMA units, and the 6000 parts lead on memory speed or core count.
Gold, Silver or Platinum: which tier do I need?
Match the tier to sockets and memory. Silver covers two-socket builds where the generation's top memory speed is not needed. Gold covers most two-socket builds and, in the 1st and 2nd Gen, four-socket ones. Platinum carries each generation's highest core counts and, in the 1st and 2nd Gen, eight-socket scaling. Check the server's processor list for the exact model.
