Dell PowerSwitch Z-Series: 100GbE to 800GbE spine switches

Z-Series is the Dell spine and high-radix aggregation platform. We stock the Z9100-ON and Z9264F-ON at 100GbE, the Z9432F-ON and Z9664F-ON at 400GbE, and the Z9864F-ON at 800GbE. All run Dell SmartFabric OS10 and sit above S-Series leaf switches in EVPN-VXLAN fabrics.

N-Series handles campus and access-layer switching, including Power over Ethernet for access points, cameras and phones. We stock the N1500, N2000, N3000 and N4000 lines plus the newer -ON models: N1108P-ON, N1148P-ON, N3024 through N3048EP-ON, N3224T-ON, N3248TE-ON and N3248PXE-ON. Where access points need more than 1GbE, the N2248X-ON and N3248X-ON add multigig ports. The N4032, N4032F, N4064 and N4064F provide 10GbE aggregation for larger campuses.

Dell PowerSwitch E-Series and X-Series

What is the difference between Dell PowerSwitch S-Series, N-Series and Z-Series?

Z-Series is the spine layer: high-radix 100GbE to 800GbE switches such as the Z9100-ON, Z9432F-ON and Z9864F-ON, used to aggregate leaf switches in a data center fabric. S-Series is the leaf and top-of-rack layer, spanning 1GbE to 100GbE, and is where most server connections land. N-Series is the campus and access layer, offering 1GbE and multigig ports with PoE+ for access points, cameras and phones. All three are stocked refurbished at Enterasource with a 2-year warranty.

Which Dell switches are built for AI and HPC clusters?

Two families. The NVIDIA Quantum InfiniBand switches are the QM9700 and QM9790 (Quantum-2, NDR) and the Q3400-RA (Quantum-X800, XDR). The NVIDIA Spectrum Ethernet switches, sold under the Dell PowerSwitch SN-Series name, are the SN5610 and SN5600D at 800GbE, the SN5400 and SN4700 at 400GbE, and the SN2201 at 1GbE for cluster management. All are quote-only and configured with optics and cabling as a complete fabric.

What is the difference between Dell PowerSwitch and Dell Networking?

They are the same hardware line under different branding. Dell used the Dell Networking name for the S-Series, N-Series and Z-Series switches, then renamed the range Dell PowerSwitch. Model numbers did not change, so a Dell Networking S4048-ON and a Dell PowerSwitch S4048-ON are the same switch. Both names appear across our catalog because both appear on the physical units.

Do Dell PowerSwitch switches work with Dell PowerEdge servers?

Yes, and they integrate more deeply than third-party switches. Dell SmartFabric Services lets a PowerSwitch fabric be provisioned and managed from OpenManage Enterprise alongside the servers, so VLANs and uplinks can be configured without a separate network management tool. This is a software feature of SmartFabric OS10 and works the same on refurbished switches as on new ones.
