Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 Processors
Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 processors (Haswell) are two-socket DDR4 server CPUs with 4 to 18 cores, 40 lanes of PCIe 3.0 and four memory channels per processor, used in HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen9 and Dell PowerEdge R630 servers. The family mixes high-core-count models with frequency-optimized four- and six-core parts and low-power L versions, so compare cores, clock and TDP before you choose. Every CPU is tested on arrival and before shipping.

E5-2600 v3 cores, clocks and memory speed
HPE's ProLiant DL380 Gen9 QuickSpecs publish each v3 model's base clock, cache, power and maximum DDR4 speed, and the family-wide picture from Intel and HPE looks like this:
| Specification | Across the E5-2600 v3 family |
|---|---|
| Intel code name | Haswell EP |
| Core counts | 4 to 18 |
| Maximum DDR4 speed | 1600, 1866 or 2133 MT/s, set by the model |
| Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost | On most models; not on the entry six-core parts |
The v3 line-up by bin
The DL380 Gen9 QuickSpecs split the v3 line-up into three QPI bins, each with its own memory ceiling:
| QPI bin | Core counts | Base clock | TDP | DDR4 ceiling |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9.6 GT/s | 4 to 18 | 1.8 to 3.5 GHz | 65W to 160W | DDR4-2133 |
| 8.0 GT/s | 4 to 8 | 1.8 to 3.0 GHz | 55W to 105W | DDR4-1866 |
| 6.4 GT/s | 6 | 1.6 to 1.9 GHz | 85W | DDR4-1600 |
The top bin also holds the frequency-optimized parts with four, six or eight cores at 3.2 to 3.5 GHz base, which suit software licensed per core.
Fit and upgrade rules
Because Dell documents the PowerEdge R630 for either E5-2600 v3 or v4 processors, a v3 server has a v4 path. Keep both sockets on one generation, because HPE does not support mixing v3 and v4 processors in a DL380 Gen9. At the entry end, Intel ARK lists six cores and six threads with no Hyper-Threading or Turbo Boost, so check the thread count on each listing.

E5-2600 v3 questions
- What is the difference between E5-2600 v3 and v4?
- v4 is the Broadwell refresh of the Haswell-based v3 on the same LGA2011-3 socket and DDR4 platform. It raises the core ceiling from 18 to 22 and the memory ceiling from DDR4-2133 to DDR4-2400, per HPE's DL380 Gen9 QuickSpecs, which support a field upgrade from v3 to v4 but not a mix of both in one server. Power stays within the same 55W to 160W band.
