What Platinum offers, generation by generation
Intel numbers Platinum parts with a leading 8 and Gold parts with 6 or 5. On Intel ARK, the Platinum models below have three UPI links in the 1st to 3rd Gen and four in the 4th and 5th (the single-socket 8558U has none), and the number of sockets each scales to depends on the generation and suffix rather than the tier alone:

Read the suffix before ordering. Intel defines U parts as single-socket only, and ARK lists the 8558U with no UPI links, so it cannot be paired; ARK lists the 8468H as scalable to eight sockets, against two for the 8468.
Servers for Platinum CPUs
Match the socket first. Dell's PowerEdge R640 and R740 accept 1st- and 2nd-generation Platinum, the R750 the 3rd generation, and the R760 the 4th and 5th. For its DL380 Gen10, HPE lists both early generations but rules out upgrading a server from 1st Gen to 2nd Gen parts in the field.
