800GB Enterprise SSDs
800GB enterprise SSDs come in SAS, SATA and NVMe, and the capacity itself hints at endurance: 800GB is a step on the higher-endurance side of the SSD range, where drives are rated mixed-use (MU) or write-intensive (WI). Choose the interface your controller and drive bays support before you compare part numbers. Each 800GB drive is tested at intake and retested before dispatch.

Why an enterprise SSD reads 800GB
800GB sits on the higher-endurance capacity ladder: doubling it gives the 1.6TB, 3.2TB and 6.4TB sizes of KIOXIA's 3 DWPD 24G SAS line, while KIOXIA's 1 DWPD line comes in 1.92TB, 3.84TB and larger. Seagate explains the gap: over-provisioning sets aside part of an SSD's capacity where the user cannot reach it, which Seagate credits with longer endurance, and its own example turns a 128GB drive into a 100GB one. Look for the MU or WI label on each listing; our SSD endurance-class guide explains MU, WI and RI, and DWPD vs TBW explains drive-life ratings.
| Interface | Form factors an 800GB drive comes in |
|---|---|
| SAS, 6 to 24 Gb/s | 2.5-inch |
| SATA, 6 Gb/s | 2.5-inch and 1.8-inch |
| NVMe U.2, PCIe 3.0 and 4.0 x4 | 2.5-inch |
| NVMe M.2 and add-in card | M.2 and half-height PCIe card |
Bays differ by chassis, so check yours: Dell's PowerEdge R650, for example, takes SAS, SATA or NVMe drives in its 8- and 10-bay 2.5-inch layouts but SAS and SATA only in its 4 x 3.5-inch layout. Interface pages: NVMe SSDs, SAS SSDs, SATA SSDs. All capacities: enterprise SSDs.
Other capacities: 960GB, 1.92TB and 3.84TB enterprise SSDs; 2.5-inch NVMe drives are grouped under U.2 NVMe SSDs.
800GB endurance classes
An 800GB enterprise SSD is rated for either three or ten drive writes per day, and the class decides what it is for. KIOXIA builds 800GB in its three-per-day NVMe line, which it describes as suited to mixed read and write work, and Seagate builds it in a ten-per-day 12Gb/s SAS line it labels write intensive, with OLTP databases among the series' best-fit applications:
| 800GB class | Drive writes per day | Writes per day at 800GB | Other sizes in the same line | Typical role |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Higher endurance, NVMe | 3 | 2.4TB | 1.6TB, 3.2TB, 6.4TB, 12.8TB | Mixed read and write workloads |
| Write-intensive, 12Gb/s SAS | 10 | 8TB | 400GB, 1.6TB, 3.2TB | Write-heavy work such as OLTP databases, per Seagate |
A drive rated for ten writes a day costs its endurance in capacity, which is why write-intensive lines stop at a few terabytes while one-write-per-day drives reach tens of terabytes. If the daily write volume is low, a 960GB drive of the one-per-day class gives more space in the same bay.
