A fan cage is the structural assembly that holds the hot-swap fan modules in position across the width of the chassis and presents them to their connectors. It contains no motors and moves no air by itself.

Search a server catalogue for "R730 fan" and you will be shown fans, fan cages and fan backplane boards together, because all three carry the word. The cage is what you need when the plastic is cracked, a latch has failed, or a previous service left the assembly bent — symptoms that present as a fan that will not seat or will not stay seated. It is not what you need when a fan itself has failed.

Our inventory record names this cage for the PowerEdge R730. It does not name the R730xd, and we are not going to add it.
