Dell PowerEdge R440 1U Rack Server
The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 14th Generation dual-socket 1U rack server and the budget entry point to the Xeon Scalable platform. It uses the same Intel Xeon Scalable processor family as the R640 but at a lower price point, with 16 DDR4 DIMM slots supporting up to 1 TB of memory.
Enterasource offers the R440 in two chassis configurations: 10x2.5-inch SFF and 4x3.5-inch LFF. Each server is built to order, tested through our multi-point hardware diagnostic process, and backed by a 2-year Enterasource warranty.
The R440 includes iDRAC9 with Redfish API, PERC H330/H730P/H740P RAID controllers, BOSS M.2 boot, and Silicon Root of Trust security. For edge computing, web hosting, small business databases, and ROBO deployments where the R640's full feature set is not required, the R440 delivers Xeon Scalable performance at a lower cost.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Dell R440 still worth buying?
Yes — within a defined brief. The R440 is worth buying for edge sites, remote and branch offices, web front ends, and small business databases where you want the Xeon Scalable platform and iDRAC9 without paying for the R640's headroom. It is a 14th Generation 1U taking up to two Intel Xeon Scalable processors at 22 cores each, 16 DDR4 DIMM slots to 1 TB, iDRAC9 with Redfish API, BOSS M.2 boot and Silicon Root of Trust. Be clear on what it does not do: no GPU support, no CPU direct-attach NVMe, no persistent memory, two limited-height PCIe slots, and a 550W PSU ceiling. Choose the R640 instead if any of those matter. Built to order, 2-year warranty included.
What generation is the Dell R440?
The Dell PowerEdge R440 is a 14th Generation (14G) server using Intel Xeon Scalable processors. The 13th Gen predecessor is the R430; the 15th Gen successor is the R450.
What is the difference between the Dell R440 and R640?
Same Xeon Scalable processor family, but the R440 has 16 DIMM slots (vs 24), max 1 TB RAM (vs 3 TB), 2 PCIe slots (vs 3), no GPU support, no NVMe direct-attach, no persistent memory, and lower PSU options (550W max vs 1600W). The R440 is the budget 1U; the R640 is the full-featured 1U.
How much does a refurbished Dell R440 cost?
Pricing depends on processor, memory, and storage configuration. Enterasource builds every R440 to order with a 2-year warranty and free ground shipping to the lower 48 states.
