Dell PowerEdge R940 Cooling Fan: The Configuration Decides the Grade, Not the Model Name
Enterasource is proud to present the Dell TC2R2, a cooling fan recorded for the PowerEdge R940. No cooling grade is marked against this part number in our record, and on a four-socket machine that omission deserves to be taken seriously rather than filled in.
Where a High-Performance Fan Requirement Comes From
Dell does not publish fan requirements against server models. It publishes them against configurations, in the thermal restriction tables of each platform's Installation and Service Manual, and those tables are where a build crosses from the standard fan to a high-performance grade. The triggers are consistent across the line: processors at the top of the thermal range, accelerator cards, rear-mounted drives, and raised ambient temperature or altitude limits. A machine that gains any one of those can need a different fan than it shipped with, while nothing about the model on the bezel has changed.
Fitment
Our inventory record names this fan for the PowerEdge R940. That is our own record rather than a Dell compatibility document, and it does not extend to the R940xa, which is a separate platform with its own thermal design. Where the machine carries accelerators or rear drives, settle the grade in the R940 thermal tables before ordering on the model name.
