Dell VP4J4 PowerEdge R750xs and R760xs Power Interposer Board to Fan Power Assembly Cable
Enterasource supplies the Dell VP4J4, the assembly carrying fan power from the power interposer board to the fan power connection on the system board of a PowerEdge R750xs or R760xs.
The Fans Are Fed From the Interposer
Cooling on these platforms is not powered from the general board rail. It draws from the interposer that sits between the supply bays and everything else, on a run of its own, which our record identifies precisely. The consequence for diagnosis is that a fan problem on this path is not a fan problem at all, and it is not a board problem either — it is a break in the distribution between the two, and it will not show up as a component fault anywhere.
What It Looks Like When This Fails
Fans that do not turn at all, on a machine that otherwise powers on and posts, are the presentation. A thermal shutdown shortly after start-up is the usual second act. Neither points at the fans themselves, which is worth knowing before a set of them is ordered: a healthy fan with no feed behaves exactly like a dead one.
Fitment and Length
The R750xs and R760xs are what our own inventory record holds; no Dell compatibility publication is cited for them. Neither connector is designated in that record, and Dell publishes no dimension for internal power cabling.
Important Notice: fans also need their control signalling, which travels on separate cabling. This assembly restores the feed and nothing else.
