Description

Six factory chassis sit under the HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 Plus nameplate, which is the widest front-end range HPE offered on any single-socket 1U server. Four-bay and twelve-bay large-form-factor, eight-bay and twenty-four-bay small-form-factor, and two NVMe front ends are all on the same list. Choosing wrongly is expensive.

It is expensive because the server that replaced this one carries only three of those six, and the two long chassis are the ones it lost. A twenty-four-bay order filled with the later model produces a machine that physically cannot take twenty-four drives. On a platform sold under near-identical names for years, that is the single most consequential thing a buyer can get wrong.

DL325 Gen10 Plus chassis options: six front ends, built from cages

The DL325 Gen10 Plus builds its front end from drive cages rather than from fixed backplanes, which is why the range is so wide. A four-bay large-format chassis takes an optional second cage to reach eight bays; a twelve-bay large-format chassis ships with three cages populated. An eight-bay small-format chassis takes a second cage to reach sixteen; a twenty-four-bay chassis ships with three. Both small-format paths exist in SAS or SATA and in NVMe U.3 form.

ChassisFront BaysCage structureReaches

12 LFF SAS/SATA12 LFFThree 4 LFF cages, all default12 LFF
8 SFF SAS/SATA8 SFFCage 1 default, cage 2 optional16 SFF, plus 2 SFF or 2 NVMe options
24 SFF SAS/SATA24 SFFThree 8 SFF cages, all default24 SFF
8 SFF NVMe U.38 SFFCage 1 default, cage 2 optional16 SFF
24 SFF NVMe U.324 SFFThree NVMe U.3 cages, all default24 SFF

Maximum internal storage follows the cages rather than the chassis name. Twenty-four small-format SAS solid-state drives reach 367.2 TB, twenty-four small-format SAS hard drives reach 57.6 TB, and twelve large-format SAS drives reach 240 TB. The upgrade kits are named parts, not configurations: P15504-B21 takes four large-format bays to eight, P15497-B21 takes eight small-format bays to sixteen, and P15725-B21 does the same on the U.3 path. An optical drive bay is available on the four-bay and eight-bay chassis by enablement kit.

Processors, memory and cooling on the DL325 Gen10 Plus

The DL325 Gen10 Plus takes one AMD EPYC 7002 processor to a maximum of 64 cores, and carries sixteen DIMM slots across eight channels at two modules per channel. Registered memory reaches 1.0 TB from sixteen 64 GB modules at 3200 MT/s with one module per channel; load-reduced memory reaches 2.0 TB from sixteen 128 GB modules on the same terms. HPE states the trade plainly: at two modules per channel the speed drops to 2933 MT/s.

Twelve processor kits are listed, from the EPYC 7702P P19622-L21 at 64 cores, 2.0 GHz and 200 W down to the 7232P P19634-L21 at eight cores, 3.1 GHz and 120 W. Two high-frequency parts sit outside the core-count ladder: the 7F52 P36435-L21 at sixteen cores and 3.5 GHz with a 240 W envelope, and the 7F32 P36434-L21 at eight cores and 3.7 GHz at 180 W, both aimed at workloads licensed per core. Cooling is two kits, the Additional Standard Fan Kit P20422-B21 and the Maximum Performance Fan Kit P37110-B21.

Storage, expansion and the accelerator gate on the DL325 Gen10 Plus

Two PCIe 4.0 slots sit on the default primary riser, both at sixteen electrical lanes and both driven by the single processor: slot one full-height full-length, slot two low-profile. Two riser kits change what the slots accept - the x16 low-profile riser P17264-B21 and the x16 full-height half-length riser P20421-B21.

The accelerator on this platform carries a gate worth stating before anything else. The NVIDIA T4 16 GB R0W29C is the accelerator HPE lists, and it requires the DL325 Gen10 Plus GPU Enablement Kit P20424-B21 - the card alone does not make an accelerator build. Storage controllers run from the no-cache Smart Array E208i-a 869079-B21 through the 2 GB P408i-a 869081-B21 to the 4 GB P816i-a 869083-B21 with its SmartCache licence, alongside plug-in P408i-p 830824-B21 and external-lane P408e-p 804405-B21 and E208e-p 804398-B21 options. Boot is the NS204i-p P12965-B21 or a 32 GB microSD RAID 1 USB drive P21868-B21. Six Flex Slot power supplies are offered from 500 W Platinum 865408-B21 to 1600 W Platinum 830272-B21, the 1600 W part is high-line only, and mixing two different supplies is not allowed.

Where the DL325 Gen10 Plus sits in the ProLiant lifecycle

The DL325 Gen10 Plus is marked RETIRED in HPE's QuickSpecs banner, meaning the base products are no longer available for sale from HPE. The document identifier is a00073548enw, first published on 2 December 2019 and last revised at version 27 on 11 September 2023. The first-published date is verified from the document's own summary-of-changes history rather than inferred.

September 2023 is the earliest freeze date of any Gen10 Plus document in our estate, which places this platform among the coldest documents in the line. HPE publishes no support-end date for it on any public surface, so none appears here.

DL325 Gen10 Plus vs DL325 Gen10 Plus v2: the chassis range narrows

The DL325 Gen10 Plus and the server that replaced it are both single-socket 1U AMD machines with sixteen memory slots, and the difference that catches buyers out is the front-end range. The later model carries three chassis where this one carries six, and the two it dropped are the high-capacity ones.

Read the chassis rows together and the risk is obvious. An order written as a DL325 Gen10 Plus twenty-four-bay and filled with the later model produces a machine that cannot take twenty-four drives at all, because that front end does not exist on it. The same applies to the twelve-bay large-format chassis. Where the later model gains is memory: its load-reduced ceiling is double, and its registered ceiling holds 3200 MT/s at two modules per channel rather than dropping to 2933.

The DL325 Gen10 Plus is the entry point of the AMD Gen10 Plus line: one socket, one rack unit, sixteen memory slots. Everything above it either adds a rack unit for drives and slots, or adds a second socket for memory and cores. On the Intel side of the same line, the live comparisons in our catalogue are the 1U DL360 Gen10 and the 2U DL380 Gen10.

Buying a refurbished DL325 Gen10 Plus

Three things settle whether a used DL325 Gen10 Plus is the machine that was quoted. The version, because the nameplate is shared with a successor that carries half the chassis options. The chassis, because the front end is built from cages and a twenty-four-bay machine and an eight-bay machine differ by two ordered parts rather than by a model number. And the accelerator kit, because the NVIDIA T4 needs the GPU Enablement Kit P20424-B21 and a card supplied without it will not produce a working accelerator build.

Out-of-band management is HPE Integrated Lights-Out, and its advanced tier is licensed per server against an order rather than travelling with second-hand hardware, so it belongs on the quote as a line item. Enterasource builds each DL325 Gen10 Plus to the specification ordered, testing on receipt, then disassembling, cleaning, inventorying, picking, assembling, configuring and testing again on the bench. Whole systems including this server carry the 2-year Enterasource warranty, and shipping is free to the lower 48 states. Frequently Asked Questions

What are the HPE ProLiant DL325 Gen10 Plus specifications?

One socket for an AMD EPYC 7002 processor to 64 cores, sixteen DIMM slots across eight channels at two modules per channel, a maximum of 2.0 TB with load-reduced modules or 1.0 TB with registered modules at 3200 MT/s at one module per channel, six chassis options covering four and twelve large-format bays and eight and twenty-four small-format bays, and two PCIe 4.0 slots at sixteen lanes.

What chassis options does the DL325 Gen10 Plus come in?

Six, which is the widest front-end range HPE offered on any single-socket 1U server: four-bay and twelve-bay large-format chassis, eight-bay and twenty-four-bay small-format chassis in SAS or SATA form, and eight-bay and twenty-four-bay NVMe U.3 chassis. The four-bay and eight-bay options take a second drive cage to reach eight and sixteen bays respectively through named upgrade kits.

How much memory does the DL325 Gen10 Plus support?

Up to 2.0 TB from sixteen 128 GB load-reduced modules, or 1.0 TB from sixteen 64 GB registered modules, both quoted at 3200 MT/s with one module per channel. The platform runs eight channels at two modules per channel, and HPE states that populating the second module on each channel drops the transfer rate to 2933 MT/s, so a fully populated configuration trades speed for capacity.

What is the difference between the DL325 Gen10 Plus and the v2?

Chassis range and processor generation. This platform carries six front ends including twelve-bay large-format and twenty-four-bay small-format options; the later model carries three and has neither of those. The later model uses AMD EPYC 7003 processors and doubles the load-reduced memory ceiling to 4.0 TB. An order for a twenty-four-bay machine filled with the later model cannot take twenty-four drives.

Where do I find the DL325 Gen10 Plus QuickSpecs, and is the platform still sold?

The document identifier is a00073548enw, first published on 2 December 2019 and last revised at version 27 on 11 September 2023, the earliest freeze date of any Gen10 Plus document in our estate. HPE marks its banner as retired, meaning the base products are no longer available for sale from HPE. Quoting the identifier by name gets the correct revision.
