AMD EPYC 7F72 3.2GHz 24 Core 192MB 240W 2nd Gen Processor | Dell Locked 100-000000141
The AMD EPYC 7F72 is a 24-core, 48-thread processor in the AMD EPYC 7002 Series, sold here under AMD tray part number 100-000000141. This unit is Dell-locked and belongs in a Dell PowerEdge server. Dell lists the 7F72 as a supported processor for the PowerEdge R6525, R6515, R7515 and C6525.
Frequency, cache and power
Base clock is 3.2GHz and maximum boost is up to 3.7GHz. The chip carries 192MB of L3 cache and has a 240W default TDP. In Dell's R6525 processor support matrix the 7F72 takes the L-type heatsink, with silver-grade HPR fans in the 4- and 8-drive chassis and gold-grade fans in the 10-drive chassis.
Memory and I/O
It drives eight channels of DDR4 at up to 3200 MT/s, with 204.8 GB/s of per-socket memory bandwidth. AMD quotes up to 4TB of DDR4 memory capacity across the eight memory channels of an EPYC 7002 Series processor. Second-generation EPYC processors support AMD Advanced Memory Device Correction, which corrects errors originating from a single DRAM chip on an x4 ECC DIMM. PCIe support is PCIe 4.0 with 128 lanes.
Platform and locking
The 7F72 is a socket SP3 part for one-socket or two-socket systems, with AMD Infinity Guard and AMD Infinity Architecture among its supported technologies. On Dell systems, enabling AMD Platform Secure Boot (PSB) permanently fuses the processor so that it works only on Dell platforms. AMD names EDA, HCI, high-performance VM density, per-core CAE, CFD and FEA, and VDI as its target workloads.
