HPE ProLiant Servers

HPE ProLiant Servers, Built to Order Across Gen10, Gen10 Plus and Gen11

Enterasource builds refurbished HPE ProLiant servers to order across fifteen nameplates: the Gen11 DL380, DL360 and ML350; the Intel Gen10 Plus DL380, DL360, DL110 and ML30; the AMD EPYC Gen10 Plus DL325, DL345 and DL385, including both v2 revisions; and the Gen10 DL380, DL360 and ML350. Every one is configure-to-order - you specify processors, memory, drives, storage controller, network adapter, risers and accelerators before we build it - and every one carries the 2-year Enterasource warranty with free shipping to the lower 48 states.

The configurator on each product page is wired from that model's HPE QuickSpecs, so the rules the manufacturer imposes are enforced while you build: DIMM slots that only open when a second processor is fitted, risers that a rear drive cage consumes, heatsinks selected by processor thermal design power, fan kits selected by everything else. Each product page also carries HPE's own QuickSpecs, User Guide and Maintenance and Service Guide as downloadable PDFs, so the specification you buy against is the manufacturer's rather than ours.

Choose a model below and configure it. Most ProLiant builds are priced as a quote against the exact configuration you specify; where a starting price is shown, it is the floor for that chassis before options. Either way the figure you get back is for the machine you specified, not a generic list price.

HPE ProLiant Generations: Gen10, Gen10 Plus and Gen11

Three HPE ProLiant generations circulate in the aftermarket at once, and the difference between them is memory architecture before anything else. Gen10 is a 24-slot DDR4 platform on 1st and 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable. Gen10 Plus keeps DDR4 and moves to 32 slots at 3200 MT/s, on 3rd generation Xeon Scalable or on AMD EPYC. Gen11 moves to DDR5, PCIe Gen5 and iLO 6. Chassis names and rack heights are identical across all three, so a listing that says only "24SFF" tells you nothing about the generation in the box - the tells are processor generation and DIMM slot count.

GenerationProcessor platformMemoryPCIeDIMM slots
Gen10Intel Xeon Scalable 1st and 2nd gen (Skylake-SP, Cascade Lake-SP)DDR4 to 2933 MT/sGen324, twelve per processor
Gen10 Plus, IntelIntel Xeon Scalable 3rd gen (Ice Lake-SP); Xeon E-2300 on the ML30 entry towerDDR4 at 3200 MT/sGen432 on DL380 and DL360, 8 on DL110, 4 UDIMM on ML30
Gen10 Plus, AMDAMD EPYC 7002 and 7003DDR4 at 3200 MT/sGen416 single-socket, 32 dual-socket
Gen11Intel Xeon Scalable 4th and 5th gen (Sapphire Rapids, Emerald Rapids)DDR5Gen532, sixteen per processor

HPE ProLiant Gen11 Servers: DDR5, PCIe Gen5 and iLO 6

Gen11 is HPE's current ProLiant platform and the only generation Enterasource builds that HPE still sells new. It runs 4th or 5th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, 32 DDR5 RDIMM slots at sixteen per processor to a stated 8.0 TB, PCIe 5.0 slots and iLO 6 management, across the 2U DL380 Gen11, the 1U DL360 Gen11 and the 4U ML350 Gen11 tower.

No Gen11 base model carries an embedded network controller, so an OCP 3.0 or PCIe adapter is a mandatory build line rather than an upgrade. And EDSFF front ends exist on this generation that the older two lack - 12 E3.S bays on the DL380 Gen11 and 20 on the DL360 Gen11, which is how a 1U server passes a petabyte of NVMe.

Best for: DDR5 bandwidth, PCIe Gen5 I/O, EDSFF NVMe density, and estates managed through iLO 6, HPE OneView or Compute Ops Management.

HPE ProLiant Gen10 Plus Servers: 32 DDR4 Slots and PCIe Gen4

Gen10 Plus is a memory step rather than a compute one. On the DL380 and DL360 it keeps DDR4 and moves from 24 DIMM slots to 32, sixteen per processor, lifting the stated maximum from 3.0 TB to 8.0 TB load-reduced at 3200 MT/s on 3rd generation Intel Xeon Scalable. Rack height, chassis names and drive-bay counts are unchanged from Gen10 - which is why generation is the first thing to confirm on a used ProLiant listing.

Nine Gen10 Plus nameplates are live here, four Intel and five AMD. The DL380 and DL360 Gen10 Plus are the mainstream dual-socket pair; the DL110 Gen10 Plus is the short-depth telco platform, one socket and eight DIMM slots to 1.0 TB, with three full-height half-length PCIe 4.0 slots at sixteen lanes and no front drive bays; the ML30 Gen10 Plus is the single-socket entry tower with four DDR4 UDIMM slots to 128 GB. HPE has retired the Gen10 Plus QuickSpecs and no longer sells these base products new, yet keeps revising those retired documents - the clearest public signal there is of a large installed base still in service.

Best for: memory-bound workloads that want 32 DIMM slots without moving to DDR5, and short-depth telco or edge cabinets where the DL110 Gen10 Plus is the only ProLiant that fits.

HPE ProLiant Gen10 Servers: the Value Platform With the Deepest Parts Pool

Gen10 is where most refurbished and used HPE ProLiant demand still sits, and the reason is supply: it is the deepest aftermarket pool of the three generations we build - chassis, processors, DDR4 modules, Smart Array controllers and spares - which shows up as shorter lead times and a lower cost per configured server.

The platform runs 1st and 2nd generation Intel Xeon Scalable with 24 DDR4 DIMM slots at twelve per processor, a stated maximum of 3.0 TB load-reduced, or 1.54 TB registered on the DL380 and DL360 and 1.5 TB on the ML350, at 2933 MT/s, and PCIe Gen3. HPE Smart Array is the controller family here, including the P408i-a and the P816i-a with a battery-backed cache module. Enterasource builds the 2U DL380 Gen10, the 1U DL360 Gen10 and the ML350 Gen10, a 4U tower that occupies 5U racked. HPE has retired this generation's QuickSpecs too.

Best for: general-purpose virtualization, budget-led refreshes, and estates already standardized on Gen10 that want matching hardware rather than a platform change, including refurbished ML350 Gen10 towers for sites with no rack.

Intel Xeon or AMD EPYC: the ProLiant DL3x0 and DL3x5 Lines

On HPE ProLiant the model number tells you the processor vendor: DL360 and DL380 are Intel, DL325, DL345 and DL385 are AMD EPYC. The AMD line's argument is cores and memory channels per socket. A single-socket DL325 Gen10 Plus reaches up to 64 EPYC cores across eight memory channels and 16 DIMM slots - work that would need two Intel sockets of the same era - which also changes the arithmetic on software licensed per socket.

DL385 Gen10 Plus2U rack2EPYC 7002 (Rome)32
DL385 Gen10 Plus v22U rack2EPYC 7003 (Milan), plus selected 700232

The v2 suffix is the tell that matters most here: HPE documents EPYC 7002 on the base DL325 and DL385 Gen10 Plus, and EPYC 7003 plus selected 7002 parts on the v2 revisions. A v1 chassis is not a route to Milan, so put the revision on the quote first.

HPE ProLiant Rack Servers and Tower Servers: DL and ML

DL is rack and ML is tower. DL360 and DL325 are 1U, DL380, DL345 and DL385 are 2U, the DL110 is a short-depth 1U for telco and edge cabinets, ML350 is a 4U tower that occupies 5U racked, and ML30 is the entry tower. Choose ML where there is no rack - branch offices, manufacturing floors, education sites, wiring closets - and DL for anything in a data center or colocation cage.
